Abstract

Music and Astronomy: A Secret Melody

The lives of Pythagoras, Galileo, Kepler, Herschel and other astronomers have all been intertwined with music.  The vocabulary of music (harmony, beat, proportion, rhythm) reflects that of the organisation of the universe. We have been able to register music from the planets and know that stars vibrate for millions of years, eventually transforming their electromagnetic waves into millions of different ‘notes’. My poster aims to show the many analogies and strange relationships between astronomy and music.
